in the higher levels eat alot of the gold apples they each give u 100 points.and also avoid the black apples as much as u can

to boost score, ignore the red apples on higher levels until last. collect as many others as possible.

don't stand directly underneath the mouth if you decide you want to stay in one place. sometimes you can catch things coming out of the mouth that you aren't even able to see yet.
